I first met Cat in June 2019 when she came to our home with some friends to a Bible study my family was hosting. It would be hard to match her zeal for the word of God. She told us her amazing story of faith, and how instrumental Kyle was in her understanding of Scripture.
Then, I heard about her plans to marry Kyle! What a good choice! I met him a couple of weeks later at the same Bible study, and we discussed the possibility of me filming their wedding. Though they knew it would be my first time filming a wedding (I have photographed a few), they were willing to work with me! |
When preparing for their wedding, I looked at some wedding videos online for inspiration. I was immediately discouraged by the amount of videographers who told no story, but instead, thought a series of beautiful slow motion shots were what made a great wedding video. Not my style. Sure, I shot much of Cat & Kyle's wedding at 120 frames per second, and as you can see below, there's lots of slow motion. However, not telling a story was not an option for me. I wanted to go into this documentary-style.
I arrived in Pollok from Wellington a few hours before the rehearsal began on Friday. That gave me some good time to scope out the wedding location and set up for my interviews with Cat and Kyle. All went smoothly. A couple of hours later, I wished the engaged couple well and went back to Auckland, where I was staying.
The morning of the wedding, I arrived at location at 9:30am, though the wedding was not due to start until 4:30. I spent the time getting to know the wedding party, helping where I could, getting the establishing shots and b-roll, and arranging audio recording equipment. The time came for the wedding to start, and it was beautiful. Abner, the officiant and Kyle's dad, spent much time telling the witnesses of how important God is for Cat & Kyle. All of that was reflected in their vows. I stayed until 11pm capturing the celebrations for the newlyweds. Let the video below tell the rest of the story.
Cat & Kyle, congratulations! God bless your lives together!
